Anxiety—it is feeling that we have all endured in one form or another.
Be it an acute reaction prior to a presentation before your bosses, or a more chronic, daily distress, with most thoughts worrisome in nature, it is an undesirable woe yielding differing sensations amongst us all– Rapid heartbeats, ruminating thoughts, chest pain, sweating, panic, and irritability are just a few that we may experience.
In certain scenarios, the feeling of anxiety is a normal bodily response associated with our sympathetic nervous system, or the “fight or flight” response (imagine you are running from a bear- anxiousness is an expected response). Calmness resumes after the actual or perceived threat is gone.
However, many folks suffer consistently, in the absence of any known obvious threat that would prompt the expected reaction. There are a number of potential underlying causes of chronic anxiety, from poor gut function, hormonal imbalances, caffeine and alcohol overconsumption, nutrient deficiencies, unaddressed traumas, and beyond. Determining the root cause is imperative to successful treatment.
